my name is lex colton. i am 24 years old from the bay area, california. i am an artist, musician, designer, photographer, videographer, and creative. since i was a young kid, i have taken an interest in drawing, music, photography, and finding beauty / inspiration in all parts of life. the excitement, passion, and challenge that these creative arts brought me have stuck with me to this day.
a couple days before my 11th birthday, i made one of my first songs, recorded on my parents iphone 5 at the time. it was created using a roland groovebox that my dad had bought for fun but rarley used. you can watch the video on the left :) the feeling and joy of making that song is something i’ve never forgotten, and those same feelings continue to guide me today.
throughout my teens and young adulthood, i taught myself how to produce, record, and create music on garageband by following youtube tutorials. shortly after, i switched to logic pro, which i’ve been using ever since. i loved making hip hop and trap beats back in my teenage years, recording myself and friends in my room.
after high school, at 18, i wanted to learn more about music and enrolled in a bsc at london metropolitan university in london, england. i joined the music production and technology course and moved across the world to begin my studies. i was nervous to be in a new place i knew nothing about but i was also excited to not only learn more about music, but explore a whole new culture and city as great as london. with the loving and grateful support from my parents, i went for it. i decided to move there because i believed there was nothing to lose and everything to gain by going somewhere new and pursuing my studies. in 2023, i graduated with a 4.0 gpa and was granted the...
‘Best Undergraduate Student in Creative Technology and Digital Media of 2023 London Metropolitan University Award’
i am very proud of my accomplishments and continued to grow in my music and creative endeavors. after finishing my studies, i left london and returned to california. i continued to travel, release music, and began creating my own music videos and youtube content under my name. at theend of 2025, i got an opportunity to intern at voicebooking in amsterdam, netherlands. during my three-month internship, i worked on voice-over editing, mixing, and mastering for social media, tv, radio, and live events. i was also the lead audio engineer for multiple podcasts and live voice-over recordings.
in 2025, i took a deep dive into sampling music and learning about music from different cultures around the world. listening to such a diverse range of music sparked new ideas and genre-blending collaborations that i am currently working on in 2026.
at the moment, i am an independent artist working out of my home studio in amsterdam. along with music, i have also started running events under the name blip creative community and am building an art business called smile with me art. i am very excited about the new projects i’ve been creating, and i’m looking for new collaborators, connections, and stories to tell in 2026.
some of my dreams include being in a josh safdie movie, traveling the world to explore different music cultures in person, and working with some of my favorite artists:ntyler, the creator, the alchemist, the marías, joji, and griselda, to name a few. i also want to open a large, university-level creative hub where anyone can come and use facilities to bring their ideas to life. The space would have music studios, t-shirt screen printing, fashion design rooms, and more, all at accessible prices in a modern, clean environment. i want to provide jobs to passionate people and create a “third place” community where everyone can come together to create and connect.
i also love physical products and would like to create unique items that tie in with my music releases. for example, my latest project, “blue eyed grass” is named after the flower of the city i was born in, san diego. I would love to create packets of blue eyed grass flower seeds and have the design be in theme with my project as a really fun and unique way to create memorable products and experiences.
it’s also a dream of mine to host physical album event pop-ups around the world in unique settings that connect with the music. for example, i imagine an industrial metal walkway set in a green natural environment, leading to an outdoor dome where people can walk in, hear the ambience of the music, and lie down or take a seat and enjoy. the dome would have a circular opening at the top, allowing people to focus on the blue sky and the clouds above. see you there in the near future! - lex
